Welcome to our community!

The Master Gardener Program in York County has the feel of a community even though we are spread out over 1,271 square miles. Over 150 active UMaine Extension York County Master Gardener Volunteers and current trainees all share some things in common; a love of working with the soil, making things grow and a passion for extending our knowledge and enthusiasm to others throughout the county.  This is more important than ever in today’s society, being 3-4 generations removed from the farm and working with the earth to make things grow. Master Gardener Volunteers are helping to reestablish that connection by creating a community of committed gardeners learning from UMaine Extension and from each other and then sharing that knowledge with others.

Working together is just plain fun and satisfying; seeing demonstration projects come to fruition, strong friendships developing, getting children involved in gardening for the first time. Old, young, liberal, conservative, people of different races and beliefs, we join together to work for common goals; helping each other learn, teaching others, improving  our communities, and having a really good time doing it.

Check out a few of our current community projects. Some are coordinated by the Board of the York County Master Gardener Association (YCMGA), some are small and localized, and all are approved by the UMaine Extension Faculty in York County.  We hope you’ll take a look around our web site and see some of the things we’ve been doing.  If you have any questions, please contact either myself or the UMaine Cooperative Extension Office in York County  (324-2814, 1-800-287-1535 in Maine, or ceyrk@umext.maine.edu ).
